What is Time To Eat?

Time to Eat is a holistics vision for the future Norwegian school in 2030. The way it differs from the school today is that food is a greater part of the everyday school life, by having a seperate lunch room, served warm lunch, a greenhouse and a closer connection with the local community. Time to Eat is a restructuring of the school and education that ensures a thriving food experience for the pupils in primary school, by facilitating a sustainable, inclusive and aware attitude towards food. Time to Eat consists of three main elements: physical facilities, a digital platform and a holistic food education.

Why Time to eat?

The Norwegian government initiated a reformation of the education plan for all primary schools. This is called “The Promise of knowledge”, and it contains three new subjects that focus on sustainable development, democracy and citizenship, and public health and life mastery. Internationally it has been set goals for the future as well. To stop climate change by 2030, the UN has decided on 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDG), like "quality education", "sustainable cities and communities", "responsible consumption and production" and "climate action". To achieve the UN SDGs, the society has to make changes at all levels: at home, in the private sector and in the public sector.

Therefore we decided to ask ourselves "How can the school facilitate for better meal experience and teach pupils the importance of sustaining existing resources through food."
